Lord Mayor's Show 2019

The traditional pageantry of the Lord Mayor’s Show saw active and veteran members of the HAC proficiently and proudly parade through the City of London alongside over 100 other regiments, charities and community groups. Despite the onset of inclement weather towards the end of the parade, all participants represented the HAC superbly with style and precision to the uplifting cheers of the many spectators that lined the three-mile procession route.

Active Unit

As is customary, the HAC paraded towards the end of the procession, providing military presence to the carriages of Aldermen, Sheriffs and other officials of the City. Soldiers from the Regiment led the HAC contingent, dressed in both ceremonial and active duty uniforms to represent the varied roles the Regiment continually performs. Following close behind was the Regimental Band providing rousing musical accompaniment enjoyed by all and the Detachment of Special Constabulary representing the policing wing of the HAC.

Ceremonial Sub-Units

After the Active unit came our ceremonial sub-units. Both the Company of Pikemen & Musketeers and the Light Cavalry undertake critical roles within the procession each year; the Pikemen & Musketeers provide the bodyguard for the Right Honourable the Lord Mayor while the Light Cavalry provide the bodyguard for the Lady Mayoress. Upon arrival at Mansion House, the Lord Mayor also reviews the Pikemen & Musketeers to the delight of the crowds. Both sub-units are integral to the history and spectacle of the Lord Mayor’s Show with their close support to the Lord Mayor and Lady Mayoress as well as their participation in the largest unrehearsed parade in the world.

The Lord Mayor’s Show is one of the key dates in the Company’s ceremonial calendar and an unforgettable experience for all those involved.
